I tried sending an international courier via UPS the pickup experience itself was so bad that I decided not to send the courier via them.
This is how it unfolded.
I wanted to send a gift to my Uncle who stays in Bahrain on his 60TH Birthday. I bought a Tissot watch worth 22K and called the UPS customer care to schedule a pickup.
After a lengthy conversation where I was repeating most of the information multiple times, the person said that she cannot ship to Bahrain without the destination pincode.
So I hung up and tried to get the pincode for my destination. I found that Bahrain does not even have a pincode system. So I called them back and then they say yes Bahrain does not need a Pincode, but this time they said I have to remove the battery of the watch before I can ship it.
Now I had to go to a service center to get the battery removed, After this when I called them they said that they cannot guarantee that they will be able to deliver the package. After a lot of shouting and argument they agreed to guarantee and I also added an insurance on top for the package and asked for a pick up. They Sent me two forms to be filled which were basically forms for corporates an did not make sense for a personal courier. When asked they said the pick up person would help in filling up the forms. They also said that the pickup person needs to see the content of the package and hence it should be kept opened and should be packed in front of him. and that after that he would weigh the package and let us know the exact price.
When the pickup person turned up he was rude and had no idea about how to fill the form . He also did not have a weighing scale to weigh the package.
After seeing all this we decided not to go with UPS
