I have mixed reactions to this place.Initially when it opened I was truely impressed .But later on after sometime in just a matter of month as the inital euphoria died down , the place looked jaded , out of charecter n lacked that energy to be labelled as the happening place . But now this place has bounced back with some innovative event management n most importantly proper reorientation of space.
Blore pubs r always plagued by lack of space, choking cigar smoke especially for those who are allergic to it(but what is a pub without cigar smoke, haah???), poor DJs(DJing is just isnt playing 10 good songs from 10 CDs) n repetitive music. This pub indeed was the first one to have such a huge floor space , but initially it wasnt utilised properly, mainly bcos of the caged DJ console located right in the middle, which divided the pub into 2 halves , n nobody wanted to venture into the area behind the console , n ppl were forced to sit there many a times. But now with relocation of the DJ turntable to the rear it has created visibly more room n free space.Infact now the area left of the entrance turns into more of a spacious dance floor , n indeed is the pulse n the place, for the urban grind. They indeed ve added more sizzle to this area with revolving scanners, neon lights n is more on the darker side .The seatings with huge comfortable bean bags r also placed sparsely giving enuff room for ppl to move around n space for the frenzied mood.THe area infront of the long snazzy bar is more jazzier on the brighter side n a place for those who wud luv to ve a chat while sipping the exotic cocktails. The place gets more sober as one moves up to the right.
This place has gem of a sound system , to keep the energy of the music distributed equally over the entire floor, but action is definitely in front of the spinning wheel. This place seems to ve suffered from a sort of identity crisis when it comes to music.First when it started, it dished out soft rock peppered with retro n commercial picks, but later on it took a total U-turn n has now settled down to the in-vogue music danz, techno, house .But inhouse DJing lacks that quality or should I say that wickedness like in Proof. But this is covered up by unempteen number of guest super DJs who take over the DJ console for those theme parties which this place is now well known for.The themes r as exotic n whacky as one can imagine like Caribbean fever , Mexican , Latino, mostly underground trance parties like Bacardi n friends ...., halloween nights, fashion shows , corporate parties, model hunts etc etc.Recently it went one step further by having a folk rock gig by the local rock band Thermal n Quarter (anybody remember the opening act in Deep Purple concert?) , which I think was a cool ideeaahh.
Other positive aspects, is the visual treat of videos over two large screens in sync with the songs played(sometimes)n live feed of the dance floor , n some sprinkling of laser lights, that adds that extra techno appeal to UE. The rates of cocktails r pretty resonable , and service is very humble , but the only irritating part r the cover charges which can be restricted to some days.Overall a place that need not be missed if it hosts any event or theme parties.
