As I was trying to get back from Atlanta Wednesday October 8 (2008) with a serious injury, my experience was horrible and exacerbated my condition. It would have been worthy of vigorous complaint, even were I NOT injured.
I arrived at Hartsfield at 2:00, in plenty of time. My flight (US Air 3124 to 1621) was delayed and switched amongst gates, difficult to manage on crutches (since they wouldn’t let me keep the wheelchair I was brought in on), and finally would not make its connexion, so I was transferred to US Air 70 at a different gate, and had to transport myself. That flight was delayed and eventually the second leg, to Seattle, was cancelled. They offered me vouchers to stay in Atlanta (but I don’t need “vouchers” to stay with relatives; I needed to get to my surgical appointment!). After a long time, and lots of grousing on my part, they got me a ticket for another carrier (Delta DL173), and they had someone push me, but he pushed me to the WRONG GATE and ran off. I had to run on foot to get to the correct gate. Then my luggage (x-rays, records, etc.) was “delayed” as it had been on the way down.
When I got it AFTER my surgery, it had been rifled-through and things stolen (but was not damaged as it had been going down). I have had no response at all to my complaints, and I have been pretty diligent. This company deserves to fail. In any case I would suggest avoiding this airline if you are, or could become, injured, or if you have luggage. (BTW, my injury was exacerbated, but I will still probably heal OK).
