UTTARAN- DISASTER: PART-2: they did it again!!!!

Hi friends,

The idiom, ‘once bitten, twice shy’ doesn’t

apply to Uttaran, a serial on the channel COLORS. Hats off to the script

writers, they did it again! Like 1 botched up marriage wasnt enough, they

went ahead with another ‘doomed wedding’. I guess all our negative reviews

didnt reach the script writers in the first place! THAT’S WHY THEY DID IT AGAIN

:-(

Uttaran which started out as a meaningful

serial that depicted the plight of a poor girl, ’Icha’ HAS NOW BECOME A HUGE,

IRRITATING & FRIGHTFUL MESS! Somebody please clean up this mess.

‘Icha( Hitchki)’, the protagonist, as the name

of the serial suggests, had to live on the old and used things of her rich

friend’tapasya(Tapu)’ Fate made the 2 girls from extreme backgrounds, friends

for life. It was delightful to see the younger Icha frolicking with her friend,

fishing in ponds, finding intelligent solutions to childish problems, helping

her mother. Even the younger thakurain, ’Tapasya’ was adorable. She was so

protective of her best buddy ‘Icha’, occasionally getting  misguided by her shrewd and conniving ‘nani’ who

isn’t even the real mother of the thakurain, just a wicked massi! Why do these

rich families in serials love keeping and taking care of ‘EXTRA BAGGAGE’ in their

homes? These people should be chucked out first! But then yaar, we have to

live with this sad reality of serials, NO extra baggage means NO extra

atyachar, NO extra atyachar means NO extra t.r.p!

 Unfortunately,

the characters of the serial grew up. Tapu transforms into ‘Taps’, a SPOILT CAT

( oh, I mean brat!) and Hitchki transforms into Mother Teresa. They are as

different as chalk and cheese but still friends. At this point enters Veer, a rich

and smart bachelor who comes to meet Tapasya vying for the prospects of

marrying her. Her arrogance repulses him(she herself is least bothered) and he

falls for the beautiful but meek Icha instead. One thing leads to another, and

Icha and Veer are about to get married. The morally right thing to do was to

get them both blissfully married(OMG, they used to look so good together!).

But when have serials ever been morally right?

Taps is gold-struck when she sees the rich

gifts sent to Icha by her ‘sasural’ to be. She then emotionally coerces Icha

into making her get married to Veer instead. And the dumb Icha, actually does

it. All the while Veer thinks he is getting married to the girl of his dreams

but he comes back home after the marriage to find his worst nightmare! The

story then slogs ahead, the end result being that Veer doesn’t accept Tapasya.

He still loves Icha, Icha loves Tapasya and Tapasya loves Veer(I warned you,

it was a big mess!). And here enters Vansh(just to make the mess bigger!)

Vansh is the reclusive elder brother of Veer

who is suffering from substance abuse problems. He meets Icha at a

rehabilitation centre and instantly starts liking her. The scheming Tapasya

plays her part well, and before you know it, Vansh falls in love with Icha

decides to get married to her. Veer is heart-broken but does not stand in the

way of his brother’s love(what did such a good guy do to deserve all this, I

ask?). But Tapasya wasn’t satisfied even after snatching away her friend’s

love, almost murdering her and finally getting her married to a drug-addict.

She did the ultimate malevolent act of telling Vansh about Veer and Icha. Uptil

now, nobody had told him about their past.

Veer’s marriage to Tapasya was an utter

DISASTER(I am writing this in capital to accentuate the meaning!). With the

upcoming marriage of Icha to Vansh, the directors had a chance to redeem

themselves by setting things straight. But no, they further entangled the huge

mess by getting Icha married to Vansh today. What should I call this marriage, a

CATASTROPHE?!

There are so many flaws the story-line. First

of all, Icha needs to be whacked in the head with a bat. Even after being shot

at the orders of Tapasya, she continues to wash her feet and drink the dirty

water too! What rubbish, in today’s reality even an 8 year old can

distinguish between a good and bad friend. And Poor Veer, he is tossed around like a

tennis ball by both Tapasya and Icha! He has a weak character in the story, a

total waste of such a talented actor.
