The same opinions been goin on about Laxman among people since he has been given the two down position in the indian one day squad. He cant play the lofted shots properly and then when India has lost quick couple of wickets in the beginning , he comes and keeps on wasting the balls.I guess he has to improve on his strategy of playing in the one dayers. I dont think it would be a tough job when Tendulkar and Ganguly are back but for the series against WI it waz surely a big problem.He cant score at ball to ball rate and the run rate just mounts high if we have to chase a big target
Like in the 5th or the 6th one dayer I guess, he made 66 but took ages and consumed a lot of balls and finally india ended up getting a low score.It waz like he waz playing for his place in the side and he was just full filling his selfish motive. In the finals , he waz playing better , looking to attack but he should have been more responsible and shouldnt have got out after scoring that quick 22 runs.
I feel he is a very good player for test cricket because hes got the techinique to deal with teast cricket . Basically from hyderabad this batsman is a wonderful wrist player . he plays some wonderful cover drives which are a feast to watch and good pull shots too.......not the exact pull shot but slightly straight!
In the finals, he was just lagging in his foot work. His feets just didnt move while he was playing the shot which got him out!
I guess We got to blame a lot on the selectors who kept on changing the side and pressurised the team players in doing so, coz basically the guys seemed to be playing for their place in the side, which is a crime in itself!
Laxman should start scoring at a brisk rate and should also play responsibly. He basically cant work the balls in the gaps when I comes on the crease and then he slowly pushes up the tempo. But he should learn to push the balls in the gaps right from the time he comes on the crease because I think nowadays we get such huge scores and I dont think he can take 5 to 6 overs just to settle himself!
So Laxman!! Start playing for your country! Work the balls in the gaps! Learn the lofted shots! and I guess you’ll be fine!
