What a movie?
Am amazed how much people have lost their penchant for relationship based stories. A different movie like this ought to be encouraged. But not without making the flaws even.
First the REAL flaws of the movie. (dont trust the reviewers from papers)
1.Most of the conversation was in English which was too odd. It happens only in rare cases where couples are from different languages
2.the film relies completely on the heart warming music from harris
3.The pace of the movie depends on the viewer
4.The army scenes towards the end and the climax could ve been crisp.
5.Tremendous over dose of Surya
And the biggest flaw-The entire film is narrated and its really a patience-tester that could ve been completely avoided.
If yr thinking why to watch a movie with this many flaws, Kindly skip the movie. Dont even watch it on DVD. Yr never gonna like it
First People who write reviews for the top papers(times of india etc., ) must be kicked out. Their reviews simply rate the movie based on the negatives.
Only a lover of movies should be allowed to write reviews. Not some idiot who doesnt even have the patience to sit through the movie.
OK all the filtering over.
People who are still reading......
This is one of the best movies I ve seen recently. The entire life of a man and the love story of his father are packed into one film. And one bulky parcel at that:-)
The movie takes you through the birth, fall and growth of a man. A real man.We could relate to almost all sequences which potray his emotional changes.
Some happy, some sad, some exciting, some horrifying and of course some a bit too much
The linking between the changes in the life of surya was nice in many places, was poor in some places.
The potrayal of Surya as krishnan was excellent. Apart from his constant english dialogues, his sterling performance requires a big recognition
The characters apart from surya dont hold on to yr mind except sameera. She fits her role like a hand to glove.
The songs are simply Awesome. So is the cinematography and Choreography. The changes in moods, lighting and steps in the songs leave a silent impact on us
The liking of the film was simple n straight, the reactions inside the theatre said it all-a father near me hugged n kissed his small son half way through the movie. A group of college girls of about 18-20
were messaging seriously from their mobiles. My grany near me was asking me what was going on n when the movie ll end. :-)
The drug addiction scenes n withdrawal effects are realistic potrayals. though they still slow down the movie
The character of Shankar menon was aptly introduced in the movie and used effectively for the changes in suryas life. The love scenes between divya n surya are OK. But dont impress much after the flashy first half with sameera.Prithviraj is hardly noticable but plays a short n fiery role as Azar
Gauthams prowess in action sequences are evident in the stunt scenes n Army operations.
There are a few movies about which u think even after walking out of the theatre n proceed with yr life. Most of them are movies that cant be ended. But have to be ended.
Like kamals Anbe sivam, rajnis aarilirunthu arupathu varai, cherans autograph, selvaraghavans Pudhupettai, etc.,
These are movies that talk about lives of men. Only some of them had convincing endings. This is where vaaranam fails, Since u are let to know the climax the very first scene.
But without a doubt, This movie is a real classic that should be remembered.
A real fresh presentation apart from other tamil movies that boasts of stars, action, glamour, budget n of course formula.U may like it U may hate. But see this movie at some part of yr life.
Verdict
10/10 - surya, music, choreo, stunts
9/10 - direction, story, camera
8/10 - casting, dialogues
5/10 - climax, screenplay
Movie-Must see... some time if not now.
