What happened to Mr. Gautam Menon? He is a young creative director from south who had given us an entertaining Minnale (not ignoring the fact that its hindi version Rehna hai tere Dil mein was dysthymic) , a rocking Kakka Kakka and an almost okay Vettayadu Vilayaadu.Hope he has lost it. What has he lost? Ideas? substance or sense?
cast
Vaaranam Aayiram is a movie about a youngster "Surya" and his highly supportive buddy-like father "Krishnan" both beautifully played by "Surya" and some instances through journey of life. Cant resist to say that he Surya has completely done justice to the role.
He is an actor whose growth is clearly visible through each role he performs one after another. Hundred claps to him for being a real phoenix changing from an old "flop man" to a rising superstar. The guy is still growing. No wonder even Amir khan got impressed seeing the original Ghajni He is living rather than acting as a father in this movie.
Simran is the other actor who performed well in the movie. She also lives as a typical house wife, as a loving by-stander to her husband and children.we will be wondered by the maturity in acting she has attained. Sameera Reddy has only a short role, but also performs well charmingly.
Music by Harris Jayaraj doesnt fall short of expectations. "Nenjukkul" and "Mundinam" linger even after the end of the movie.ufff - the movie
If I am to give an apt description for the movie, it would be "a well strained disaster".How could a director ruin his creation in this way? Each scene is given maximum luster and the camera(i hear its a damn costly one used) sure does rock during songs and throughout, but still it doesnt save the movie from boredom!
The story line goes blunt after the interval and destroys all the beauty of the film and the word we last feel is "meaningless". If Gautam Menon is to continue this path, then sure hell fade into list of "forgottens" soon.
Anyway thanks for teaching me patience within one and a half hours, because frankly up to interval, the movie was cool, but after that grrrr !! Mr Menon has to realize that too much twists and turns are not at all good for a movie or do it in a way that its at least digestable. In Summary, Vaaranam Aayiram ascends like "wo" and descends like "oh"!!
