Vaaranam aayiram, the latest offering by ace director gautham menon. The first feeling you get after this movie is " man a total let down ". From fast paced cop thrillers to a slow paced (extremely) story of different stages of a mans life. Really nothing new to offer here. A cocktail of different story lines from age old movies. Surya acts as the father and son in the movie. Although the movie is marketed as a father-son relationship it really has very little importance in this movie. It is basically the story of Surya (son) his adolescence, his teenage love, love loss, days of pain, drugs, alcohol, self realizaion, military life, love again, married life until the death of his father.
Actors as usual are brilliant as in any Gautham menon movie. Sameera reddy and Divya as Surya (son) love interest carries their characters really well. Simran as Surya (father) wife is simply superb. But the movie belongs to one man and one man only and that is Surya. The whole movie rests on his well chiseled shoulders and he carries it well. He looks like a Greek god with all that six pack ( which he flaunts a lil too much in the movie.
You can see the effort he has put in this movie where he looks believable as a 17 yr old boy where he has lost oodles of weight and all skinny and all hunky and muscular as his age in the movie progresses...... Its not a bad movie by any means but nothing special either. People started walking out of theatre after some time because it was tediously long for the story line. Lovely music, brilliant camera work.
Watch this movie with tag line "PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE " and you may not regret.
