Vadukumnathan is truly a must-see film this year....i was waiting for this film for a very long time, ,
i thought it will never get released due to financial crisis and I also thought it will be broadcasted in Asianet or something after the stupid movie Katha (prithvi Raj and kavya madavan starrer) was like that , , but thank you Jesus..the movie got released, and the waiting paid off..
i went with my boyfriend to watch this movie but I suggest that you guys should go watch this movie with your family since it also teaches about how you should depend on your family and it also portrays a mother-son relationship. (Lalettan and Kaviyoor Ponnama..wow!
the story is inspired by the hollywood flick, Rusell Crow starrer, A Beautiful Mind, about how a mathematical genius who able to solve problems that baffled the greatest of minds. And how he overcame years of suffering through schizophrenia to win the Nobel Prize, and with the help of his lover Alicias (Jennifer Connelly) he will be able to recover his mental strength and regain his status as the great mathematician we know him as today.
well, in malayalam John Nash is Bharath Pisharody and Alicia is Meera.
so
The story starts like this with a mother and son (Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Biju Menon) coming to Hardwar to perform last rites of her elder son who had run away from home and is believed to have died. But the mother sees her long lost son on the banks of River Ganga and brings him back to the family. He is Bharath Pisharody (Mohanlal) a brilliant Sanskrit professor who is respected and loved by everyone including his cousin, student, and lover Meera (Padmapriya). But on his day of marriage he runs away leaving behind a heart-broken Meera and her father (Murali). Now Pisharody is different man and his family and friends thinks that he is on drugs. But actually, the man is mentally disturbed as he suffers from deep depression. Soon his brother discover papers relating to his treatment for mental illness from his locked suitcase. Now everyone starts seeing him in a different way, which leads to the final twist. How Meera helps him come out of this difficult problem in life forms the rest of the gripping, touching tale.
I have seen a lot of movies in my time, but this movie just took me by storm. Its uniqueness, ironically enough because it was based on a real life situation was a refreshing change from the usual malayalam masala blockbusters. this movie also touched me in different levels.
this movie is brilliant was because
1) A) Mohanlals absolutely outstanding portrayal of Bharat Pisharody, no wonder he is one of the best actors in India or even in the whole world..his looks, mannerisms, the blank stares that he gives when he is mentally ill...WOW! all I could say is WOW! I know alot of people will disagree with me but sometimes he is better than Mammooty..An award should be given to him since he deserves it..for 2006 state awards should be given Mohanal or Murali (Pulijanmam)
B) Padmapriyas performance...at first when she entered malayalam cinema..i didnt like her one bit because I thought she couldnt act like when I watched Amritham and Kazcha..rajamanikyam
But her recent films have proven me that I am very wrong...in pattiyal she played Saro who was an extrovert, girl from the slums, chatterbox, wooing Arya, and she played that character brilliantly..and now she is in Vadukumnadan, giving the audience a very matured, first-class performance..
She is an actress who could do glamorand at the same time can do performance oriented roles...i hope she recieves all the major awards for this fim...and she is very pretty also!
2) Absolutely, Ravindrans music is one of the major highlights in this film, the songs Kalapham tharam, Gange, and Oru Killi Pattu Moolave (my personal favorite). . Hats off to late Raveendran who has given some great songs and all the songs are major hits!!
3) Peformances by the other cast, Kavya Madhavan, Biju Menon, Kaviyoor Ponamma, Sreeja Chandran, Murali, Vineeth, Riza Bhava, Babu Namboothiri, provided good performances in this movie...all these actors have a main involvement in the story and they are not used caricatures which I think its a big plus point.
4) pat on the back for Gireesh Puthenchery who wrote the story, screenplay and also the https://lyrics...
and last but not least Shajoon Karial has given a serious film with all the right touches. He has eschewed the urge to go commercial.
i know my review might be little long but it was worth it as its such as great movie!
this movie will grab many awards and if it doesnt, thats because the award judges are stupid.
Vadakkumnathan deserves a watch by all those who love and value cinema, especially good cinema!
