Why is it that we destroy things we love the most?
Another great work by Paulo, centered around the theme of forgiving our past and believing in our future.
This true story begins in Rio de Janeiro as Coelho says: I have seen my dreams fall apart just when I seemed about to achieve them.
His mysterious master, J., sets him out on yet another journey, this time, to find and speak with his guardian angel. A forty day quest which takes them to the beautiful and dangerous Mojave Desert. It is here, he searing heat of the Mojave Desert, that they encounter the Valkyries, warrior women who travel the desert on motorcycles spreading the word of angels.
The story of The Valkyries well laid out in exotic locales, a story which leaves us wondering if there is something more to our existence in this world. Each incident is a huge repository of understanding which makes us stop to think and absorb.
This can be light reading stuff, but to really understand the author and the message hes trying to convey, is is really important to stop at times and ponder. Sometimes you may feel this is a self exercise book (something like The Pilgrimage), but it is the openness in the authors writing about his experiences that grabs us till the end.
Paulo in his usual style of easy writing has given us gems of wisdom, if only we would stop to listen. Frankly, its so much better than self help motivational books, which tries to suppress the negatives instead of dealing with them.
