The Barrytown Trilogy...

Author ’’Roddy Doyle’’ compiled three of his novels together.

The Commitments..The Snapper.....The Van...

I purchased this Trilogy, because I had read a Review here at MouthShut,

that the ’’Van’’ was a ’’must read’’...

The Commitments is a story set in Dublin Ireland.

It is about a group of neer-do-well teenagers,

They decide that if they can round up, enough young

guys with some sort of musical talent,

they can become the next big Rock&Roll stars,

and bring all that magic to the Irish!

Hoping of course to get rich!..

I didn’t like this one at all...

I couldn’t understand the Irish slang, and I found the crude language

unnecessary. I tried to get through it! but don’t recommend it..

The second one ’’The Snapper’’...Was a more interesting read.

The Father, Jimmy Sr was a good working class Irishman.

He loved his wife Veronica and their children.

Their twenty yr old Daughter Sharon was telling her father that she was pregnant,

and would not tell anyone, the name of the Father.

Her dad at first was upset, but decided it was alright

and secretly he was pleased that he would be a grandad.

This is a more down to earth story of family who enjoys the everyday

simple lives that make up a family...

The third story..’’The Van’’ was also a nice little story.

It’s a progression of the lives of this family.

Set in the fictional ’’Barrytown’’ area of Dublin.

Around 1990..Mr Jimmy Rabbitte Sr has lost his job!

He is feeling desperate and and does not want charity.

His friends try to offer some help, with Christmas gifts

but he is a proud man and un-employment is not for him!

He decides to go into business for himself, and his good friend Bimbo becomes his partner..

They buy a Van, and start a Take-out business of Fish & Chips..

Like all business some problems arise, and they have quite an interesting

adventure..I liked this one , and would recommend it...
