Varanasi

Varanasi... the holy city of Lord Shiva.. city of temples... city of ghats... city of education... is considered as the oldest city on Earth by Hindus.

Anybody, who has some faith in God, especially Shiva, must go to Varanasi once. This holy city is situated on the banks of Ganges.

How to reach?

1. We connected to all Indian Airports via Babatpur airport, 20 Kms from Varanasi City.

What to see ?:

1. City of temples: The ancient Kashi Vishwanath temple, Durgakund, Vishwanath Temple(BHU), Kashi Kotwal, Sankat Mochan Hanuman temple, Manas Mandir and lots more.

   
   




2. Hundreds of ghats make it a rare city: Dashashwamedh, Assi, Hanuman Ghat.. as well as Harischandra, Manikarnika for final rituals for Hindus.

   
   

Go to Dashashwamedh ghat in evenings to see the Ganga Aarti.

Early in the morning, take a boat and see the sunrise from water.

These ghats are beautifully decorated with lamps on the occassion of Dev Deepawali which is after Deepawali. That is a wonderful event, so don’t miss it if you are there.

1. Thousands of narrow lanes, which are rare to see anywhere else.

   
   




2. Numerous educational institutions out of which many are Universities. The Benaras Hindu University (BHU), the largest Univeristy in Asia (1500 acres) with 50+ hostels and total strength of 10, 000+ students, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Sampoornanand Sanskrit University, Tibbetan University(Sarnath) and may others.

   
   

You MUST visit BHU.

1. Diesel Locomotive Works(DLW) where Diesel Railway Engines are manufactured.

   
   




2. Godoullia and chowk markets of old Banaras.

   
   




3. The Great buddhist place, Sarnath, which is 20 kms from here.

   
   




4. Mirzapur forts : Chunargarh, Vijaygarh and other forts of ’’Chandrakanta’’ time. Remember that serial?

   
   




5. Beautiful Mirzapur waterfalls : Lakhania Dari, Raj Dari, Dev Dari etc. You MUST see them.

   
   

What is special to eat and drink?

1. Banarasi Chaat and bhaang ki thandai in old Banaras (Godoullia and Chowk).

You can get thandai without bhaang also.

2. Dirtly lanes with cow dung... you’ll find cattles on roads and lanes.

   
   




3. Cheat Pandas of Kashi Viswanath temple especially who bring bad name to the pious city.

   
   




4. Beware of pick pocketers and chain snatchers if you are going into Varanasi narrow lanes.
