I needed cataract surgery of my eye and the anxiety of selecting Dr, Hosp , what happens if there is a failure, cost. Speedy recovery etc. Went thru many web sites and understood various options and dos and donts. I came to the idea phaco surgery may be suitable for me. so checked for videos on YOUTUBE and
Saw some video clips and got myself clarified on the type of lenses used and why? Having done some homework, statered talking to few friends who underwent the procedure and acquainted about afew issues and preparations etc. I came to the conclusion it will be better to go to a Eye speciality hospital and excluded Govt Hosp due to fear of post care etc.
The choices were corporate hospitals, Trust hosp , Stand alone Eye hosp.
So selected Vasan Eye care , Thambaram. Went in the morning for consultation, i was charged Rs100 and was seen by eye specialist, before that I had a questionnaire to fill.Some further tests were done with eye drops costed about Rs 500. It is important that Patient tell the Drs about the medicines he/she is taking, Blood pressure most
important Diabetic condition and heart.In case of longterm diabetic, Dr may recommend retina examination for glycoma.
Once the dr and the approx date is decided, then it will be necessary pre insurance approval taken from the TPA, this the hospital will do and follow up. The Rates of Catarat varies from Rs 10k to 30K or more per eye.
The important thing is to select the right procedure, and type of lense.In my case it was Phacco and
IOL (Intra Occular Lense), I requested the Dr to select the suitable lens for me , that is IOL wich is foldable need only small incision to push the lense. The preparation of surgery etc take about an hour and half, and the surgery itself may be about 30 mints or less.The eye is given local Anaesthetic injection. After surgery important things to be taken care is of medication eye drops as prescribed and keeping hands etc sterile to prevent any infection.Normally the nextday the surgicall dressing is removed and eye drops and darl glass prescribed.
The next consultation with the Doctor after 4 days and after that 20 days depending on progress. I found Call taxi is very convenient and one escape the hassle of Parking space etc. Points to remember diabetic control, Blood pressure and infection both pre and post operative conditions.
