Yash Chopra & Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) are the men of the Hour.
On the lines of Romeo-Juliet, Heer-Ranja and other eternal love stories...comes Veer-Zaara. A pleasant, watchable movie.
Veer played by the evergreen Shah Rukh Khan and Zaara by my favorite actress Preity Zinta. And their savior - the female lawyer - played by Rani Mukherjee.
Veer is an Indian air Force pilot who loves to save lives of people trapped in Himalyan regions. Zaara, a Pakistani girl, is the daughter of an aristocrat - who has Big Political ambitions.
The story weaves India and Pakistan beautifully - connecting their people through the thread of language, culture and most of all - Humanity. After a moment you tend to forget that Veer Zaara is a love story of an Indian Boy and a Pakistani Girl.
Its all about Humanity and the victory of Truth my dear!
Ah...the above line sums it up. After all, thats what movies are supposed to do :)
Every story needs some spark. This one is provided by Zaaras visit to India for performing the last rites of her caretaker / nanny (for the lack of a better word). An accident of Zaaras bus...followed by a daring act of rescue by Veer and the movie gets its story! Hurrah! ;)
Finally...we get to some drama.
Veer takes Zaara to his village (for a day only) to meet his parents and acquaint her with his village lifestyle. Music and Fun galore! Some very popular yesteryear Movie Stars come up on screen as SRKs Parents. Least to say, its - total fun - to watch them sing and dance.
As Zaaras about to leave for Pakistan...Veer confesses his love for her. Sparks Fly!
Zaaras about to get married to a man chosen by her father. Apparently, the marriage holds the key to her fathers victory in elections.
The cliched family drama begins when Zaara returns home to Lahore. Zaara doesnt want to get married to someone who wouldnt give up his life for her! Yes, you heard me right! Apparently, Veer and Zaara think that love is all about promising to give up life for each other, when situation demands.
Anyways, the story chugs along pretty well. Veer comes to Pakistan to meet Zaaras parents to convince them. Instead, Zaaras mother manages to convince Veer to forget her daughter and go back to India :)
Instead of reaching India, Veer is trapped by Lahore Police Force and forced to sign a paper which accuses him of being an Indian intelligence agent. Here starts the real story.
The lovely Rani Mukherji plays a Pakistani female lawyer - fighting her first case - trying to secure the freedom of Veer. Only the situation & time, of the case, are VERY different than what one might think. What am I getting at? Hmmm...I think you should watch the movie :) evil me

OVERALL:
An Original Script, lovely photography, pleasant music are the strong technical points of Veer Zaara.
Preity Zinta, Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherji are - as usual - simply cool- and manage to impress the audience by their dialogues.
Add to that, some special appearances and a good marketing strategy (hey, both are same actually) - we have a potential blockbuster.
All in all, movie is Value For Money. Put your logical brain away before coming to the cinema and sit back and Enjoy!
