A prime tourist destination for decades in our city of joy, Victoria Memorial has always special place in the heart of the people living in Kolkata.
It is located in Queens Way in Maidan Area. It is a great holiday spot for family and an enjoyable place for the love birds too.
Tourists coming from other states and even from abroad seldom miss this place.
Victoria Memorial is a white colored building and built based on both royal British and Mughal architectural pattern. Entire building is build with white marble and really a heritage building built in British era dedicated to the memory of Queen Victoria after her death. The angel staute on the top of the building even attracts people at death of night when the cars pass by on the flyover passing the building.
Entry fee to enter the garden is only Rs. 10 where you can sit on the benches or even sit on the green grass and relax with your friends and family. The garden is quite beautiful and mountain is also there with comfortable seating arrangement.
There is separate entry fee to enter the building. Inside the building, it is nothing but history! If you are inclined to history and eager to know the history of Bengal and the then India, it is the best place to be in.
I have really liked the objects displayed here and also the gallery section. I was lost for an hour in side the building and really entered to the past. I saw some mementos and items related to famous **Battles of Plassey** between Siraj ud daulah and Lord Clive, and defeat in this battle saw the sun set of freedom of Bengal and the British raj started here. All the stuffs, weapons, portraits are just live example of history.
In the evening, a light and sound show is also held here which is really enjoyable and worth watching!
In the after noon time, people can take a horse ride just in front of the main gate of Victoria and it is also a wonderful royal experience for both kids and adults.
I recommend this place very much, a tour to Kolkata is not complete with out Victoria Memorial.
