There are very few people (or artists as we call them) in the music industry who are doing justice to Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiyat. There are still fewer people who were born and brought up in Punjab and have taken the punjabi music to international level and making it all time favourite.
These days Punjabi music is the talk of the town. No party is complete without punjabi songs ’blowing’ from DJ and people dancing to the tunes. Even if people don’t understand a single lyrics, well someone has rightly said music has no language.
But still there are few singers in the town, who have maintained the quality of the music and do justice to Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiyat. Anyone who understands punjabi will agree to it.
Definitely Gurdas Mann is the star and king of Punjabi Music. He has maintained his style and quality over the years and stands out of crowd. Infact, he is getting better with age :-)
His recent albums like Panjiri, Heer have all been hit and are based on folk music. His latest album, Vilayatan is another hit from this genius.
Again the music is folk without the unnecessary ’kichdi’ of pop and rock. The lyrics are just great. I am not able to find words to appreciate them.
The album has 8 songs in all and as ok now, I have heard them only once.

# Punjabiyaan Di Balle Balle.mp3 -- A song that highlights the good ness of Punjab.
# Vilayatan Ho Gayee Ve -- This song highlights the plight of indian girls marrying abroad using light-weight humour.
# Bekadraan Naal Pyaar.mp3 -- Hooka den jhana diya chaalla -- Another thought provoking song warning people to be beware of selfish
# Ishq Di Maari.mp3 -- main jhalli ho gayi ....
# Hai Mera Dil.mp3 --
The only thing that I feel odd about this song is the presence of religious song Sarbans Daaniyaan in other wise romantic album.
