Due to the poor power management and planning of BESCOM and the Urban development authorities, an emergency lamp has become more important in every citizen living in Bangalore(if one could not afford a UPS). When I moved to Bangalore in 2006, I realised this challenge and soon picked up a Vinverth emergency lamp.
The requirements of any portable Emergency Lamp generally are
Long duration of lighting with good brightness(initially it was over 6hrs. Now a good 2hrs 40mins)
Rechargeable from a basic 230volt plug point(yes)
Good battery life(Original battery still working fine)
Cheap and easily available lamp(Vinverth PLC20 twin pin standard CFL - Still working)
Sturdy body(Mostly scratch less though it fell down few times; once even from over a feet high)
and Cheap to buy(paid INR 1485.00 at a store from Kerala, with bill and a Manufacturer warranty of 5yrs)
While I researched thoroughly in the market for a product matching the aforementioned needs, all I could find were the BPL, Philips, Bajaj and few other brands. All looked as though they were half hearted efforts. Few were quite fragile, while some had poor lighting and few others refused to work at showroom itself.
That is when my father suggested me this product as he found it good for over 3years of usage.
Believe you me. the unit which I bought at the beginning of 2007 still serves my need for over 2.5hrs of portable lighting.that too after 8 years of decent usage. I use the lamp while on travel(driving) or at home(during power failures).
I honestly do not know what theyve used to make this product, but this is super solid stuff.
Unlike the Japs who invented planned obsolescence, this is one whole hearted effort to bring in a quality product and that too not priced too high. If I have to buy another emergency lamp, this would definitely be my choice again.
Note: Sadly I do not see the product sold in Bangalore stores.
