My partner and I had a wedding to attend in San Francisco, so I scoured the internet for flights from London to SFO and came across these incredibly cheap (compared to full £5000+ fare) business class flights on Continental. Although at £1, 800 each against about £400 economy, they could hardly be called cheap I suppose. Continental code share with Virgin on this route so we got to experience Upper Class, which was totally superb. Check in was a breeze, the lounge at Heathrow was a little tired looking but the service was brilliant. I even got a complementary haircut before the flight. The seats on board were huge, comfortable and well spaced and went almost flat so that you really could get some sleep. The food, drink and service were second to none. They have a massage area on board where I received a great massage and they also have a bar where you can sit and chat with other passengers.
The return flight was just as good and the new lounge at SFO was out of this world. The service and food were once again exceptional. I’ve flown Virgin economy class dozens of times and have also found the service good except once when we had an exceptionally rude girl serve us on a flight from New York. I have also flown many other airlines business class (not at my own expense – thankfully!) and can say that Virgin Upper Class is with out doubt the best I’ve seen.
