Experience of a father . . .

I am in the US for a while, and at times have a strong yearning to watch something Indian, to take me back home experientially. Viruddh caught my attention, and remember to have read some review in India where this movie was mentioned for its portrayal of fun and light romance between the elder couple. I wanted to watch it was all about; especially Amitabh Bachan and Shramila Tagore are good at what they do. I was not sure what John Abraham’s role was, but it is a good to watch a movie ion that state “when you know nothing about it”.

The movie did have nice and light moments between Amitabh and Sharmila, they are John’s parents. I was watching this with my wife and did pick on her once a while, it was fun ticklish relationship shown there. It also reminded me of my parents once in a while. So there you see this is a very clean, very family-like movie too.

What I liked most about the movie was the strength and character portrayed by Amitabh, as a father wanting to bring justice to what happened to his son. No more on that, you must watch the movie to know what was Amitabh trying to do. But his portrayal as a common trouser & kurta wearing elderly, gentleman brought me very close to experiencing the pain he was going through. It’s the kind of struggle every father might have to experience in our country, be it at whatever level. Amitabh-ji is indeed the king, and with the spread of his talent, it, s such a powerful (tall) bundle.

Sharmila Tagore plays a good mother and a very supportive wife; someone you would always want to grow old with. She portrays a great mix of emotions too.

Sanjay Dutt plays a fair bit of small role in between with a mix of absolute comedy and at one time where he demonstrates ruthless anger; the kind you experience where you can’t take the nonsense but someone is trying to force it down your throat.

Bottom-line what stands out most is what a father takes on to give justice to his son’s cause and my experience as a viewer was that of pain and anger. Its certainly watch-able (and with the family).
