Hi People,
I know I am quite late for my review on this movie, but ever since I got that mail from Mouthshut about some contest, I thought I too should be participating this time.
So, here I am with the most recent movie that I watched - Viruddh.
There are already so many reviews on the movie, all detailing the storyline, the actors, the characters, the acting, etc etc. So I need not comment more on that aspect, because may whatever anybody say the fact remains that the movie is definitely worth the 4 stars which it has already got ().
My observations about the movie:
I appreciate Mahesh Manjrekar for not keeping any songs in the movie. It was a very wise decision. This way the movie did not loose its continuity, and everybody remains focused to the main story.
Im very much sure Mahesh wouldnt have had the need to go to any financer for this movie, as the movie was a billboard for so many products that the cost of the movie would have been covered by the on-the-house advertisements. To name a few - Western Union money transfer, ELF Engine Oil, Navratan Hair Oil, Nerolac Paints etc etc...
Seems Mahesh got a little confused with the GMT/BST and IST time difference. So, to remind him, let me re-iterate: The summer time difference between BST and IST is 4.5 hrs and the winter time difference is 5.5 hrs. So, by no means can any decent person call up from London to India at 6:30 am IST (means 2:30 am BST in summers and 1:30 am in winters!!). However, the movie shows John Abraham calling up his parents in India from London (walking by River Thames) at 6:30 am IST!
Big B is much in demand these days. Rather it seems that stories are written keeping Big B in the lead role only. So, good for him in all respects. However, another aspect of this is that with Big B coming in demand, even the long forgotten old wine actresses are also in big demand, of course to act the better-half of Big B on screen. So, Jaya, Hema, Sharmila... good to see all these soothing faces back amidst those sharp latka-jhatka actresses.
The end was a bit too quick-wrap-up kinds. It was sad to see a man, who has strong faith in his lands Justice, committing murder in the end. Then, court accepting a recorded confession as evidence, and letting go the guilty.
Sanjay Dutts character kept me wondering... was he in the movie just to provide the weapon-of-crime to Big B? I, however, am not questioning his presence. Just that if he was there then why was he not used properly? He had no meaty role as such except for some filler scenes! His not-being-there in the movie would not have made much of a difference. The character could have been easily passed on to any tom-dick-n-harry.He was quite a waste for such an insignificant role. Although, as always, Sanjay did full justice with his small role.
All said-n-done, the movie was very nice. We (me n my husband) enjoyed it a lot. Even after seeing all those typical aged husband-wife nok-jhonk scenes for n-number of times now, the movie has all the talent to impress any serious movie buff. Definitely the movie has got nothing to offer to just anybody who watch cinema for time-pass and fun. The movie has no glamour except for the big BIG house that Big B and his wife (Sharmila T) lives in (I wonder how she managed the whole house without any housemaid!!).
That was my views about the movie. Please feel free to put forward your views on my views!
:-)
Enjoy.
