Virumaandi - another feather in Kamal's c

As many of the people who follow Tamil films closely, I am an ardent fan of Kamal Hassan. Not just for the many faces he takes but for the perfect entertainer he wants to be. Indeed, many of his films including Virumaandi will be watched 25-30 years from now with a lot of respect and some disbelief.

Good things about the;

  1. Virumaandi is first of all, an original story by Kamal.

  2. Details, which Kamal has always shown he is an expert at. The way the two narrations complement and complete the picture for the viewer is just another milestone for Kamal.

  3. Accent of the different characters, nothing fake about them.

  4. Strong performances by everyone with more than usual screen time for the others, esp. the heroine Abhirami, the villian Pasupathy and the friend Napolean.

  5. Music, esp. the climax song is very well done. Watch out for the scene where Kamal reacts to his grandmother’s death. The theme is not as memorable as some of other Raja BGMs but it is good.

  6. Cinematography, nice work on the bullfighting Some -ve things 1. Was the second half just a little too long? 2. Nasser’s role and the way the climax is set up was a little haphazard. It seems that Kamal still cannot pull off the endings of his movie as much as he can with the other parts
