I First signed up for this credit card to get Free Ride points. Of course back then it was called Free Ride Visa, but they were bought out by Provident Bank.
The interest rate on the card is pretty high, but I figured if I paid off the balance every month that wouldn’t matter any way, and I am getting points for using it.
After having this card for about two years I am about to cancel it. Why? The main reason is because I am no longer receiving Free Ride points for it as that program was terminated. I would have canceled the card a long time ago had it not been for those points.
Why would I have canceled the card a long time ago? Because they have the worst customer service I have ever encountered from a credit card company. Granted it has gotten better recently but I have had some real problems with this card.
My main problem occurs in the payment area. Three times since I have had this card it has taken them over 20 days to process my payment, and therefore charge me a late fee for not paying on time. When in fact I have never paid late on this card. I always mail my payment for this card at the same time I mail the payment for my other credit card, but yet my payment seems to post at least 10 days later on this credit card than my other one. This tells me either they just let the payment envelopes sit around for days before someone attends to them or they purposely post them later so that they can charge late fees and interest. I honestly don’t know what the problem actually is I just know that I don’t appreciate paying for it.
I will have to say that I am impressed by the way they handle fraudulent charges someone must have gotten a hold of my card number on the internet and they charged $300 to my card. With one quick phone call, I was sent a form to fill out and the charges were removed from my card the next month. They handled it quickly, effectively, and with out hassle. I do appreciate that.
The Provident Bank Visa is not a completely bad card, it is similar to most others and other than the problem I mentioned above I have not had any other problems with them.
