Situated in such a place where the Eastern Ghats of India kiss the Bay of Bengal, this scenic place is well connected with the rest of the places with rail and airport. Vizag as it is called in short has a harbor, a shipping yard, a zoo and the most important of all the finest of beaches on the eastern coastline of
India. Vizag has always been my favorite destination of weekend getaways away from the city rush and pollution.
To one corner of the city lies a hill called the “Kailash giri” meaning the hill of Lord Shiva. The are two big statues of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. The view from the hill is an excellent visual treat. To one corner you can see the city sparkling and buzz ling with life. An equally vibrant sea on the other side whose blue waters merge with the sky. And then connecting the two, is the Dolphin Nose, a hill whose shape symbolizes the nose of a dolphin. The beauty of the hill is that it looks as though a dolphin is lying down on the city with the nose kissing the sea.
If one goes on to the top of this hill there the sea looks marvelous with blue and green waters. One can go yachting in the sea below the hill as the wind here is pretty good. A little away from the Dolphin Nose is the Yerrada Beach which is often referred to as a virgin beach. This beach is surrounded on the all sides by hills and a green beach, unexplored and wild. The resort has change rooms a restaurant for the tourists.
Other attractions are the submarine museum, where we get the look and feel of a submarine, the Rishikonda beach another exquisite beach to picnic, the Indira Gandhi zoological park, Simhachalam where pilgrims visit Lord Narasimha Swamy.
A little far from the place is the Araku Valley called the Ooty of Andhra Pradesh with its yellow hill slopes covered by mustard fields and springs forming cascades. Borra caves the caves formed due to Stalactites and Stalagmites formation formed by melting limestone. Botanical Gardens offer a view of some of the rare species of plants found in this region.
A wide range of hotels and
travel agents conducting tours to the place offer a warm welcome to the city. To get here you can take a flight from all known cities in India, a 2hr flight from Hyderabad captial of Andhra, or by rail an overnight journey. A wide range of Hotels offer you a warm place to rest. I would prefer the Taj which is along the coastline, having many suites facing the beach. So what are you waiting for pack your bags and get going, a place not to be missed in lifetime.
