Two days back, being a complete novice in the digital camera area, I went and bought a digital camera - the Vivitar VIVICAM 3780s as it was on a sale offer at Carrefour – Dubai (deira) Citi Centre. It cost me AED289, which is approximately Rs.3479. For Dubai standards it is cheap but I do not know whether it is available in India to make any sort of comparison…pricewise. I believe it is USD.90 in the USA.
The Vivitar VIVICAM 3780s is a slim design, feature-packed, 3 MP digital zoom camera with a resolution of 2032 x 1520 pixels.
This VIVICAM 3780s is equipped with a 3 mega pixel image sensor. Images may be made at up to 4x digital zoom and played back at up to 6X. magnification. An electronic programmed shutter with speeds of 1/7 to 1/2000 sec with manual compensation of +/- 1.5 EV in 0.3 EV steps allows for changing lighting conditions.
The images may be reviewed on the camera’s 1.4 color TFT display.
In addition to digital still images, the VIVICAM 3780s also has movie clip capability of 24fps at 320 x 240 resolution. It has USB connection and it can be used as a PC web cam. It’s memory specifications are
Internal: 16 MB built-in non-volatile flash memory; approximately 14 MB available for image/movie storage; images stored in available 14 MB (typical): It has a slot for an SD memory card of 512MB.
It came with 2 AAA Alkaline batteries (rechargeable batteries are recommended for use), a case(pouch), USB cable and a CD with special software.
Vivitar Corporation is from USA but this product is made in China (almost every digital camera is made in China!). It was released in November 2005.
I have found this camera very useful and easy to hold and handle and truly, value for money. The pictures and video shots are clear and I have been able to download both video clips and pictures onto a PC and send it by email as well. The manual explains every aspect of usage. And finally, it comes with a one year warranty as well.
