I have a Hutch postpaid connection. The only difference is that my SIM card is in my wallet as it awaits that grand redemptive day when I can actually throw it away.
My number is +919899611227. I was beguiled by the seemingly mature, sweet & meaningful ADs of Hutch as compared to the ADs of Airtel which I felt were being targeted at village idiots.
All was well as long as I was on voice and I thankfully didnt roam using my Hutch phone. The customer service was quite good, and as an IT professional the inevitable happened and I opted for GPRS. Activating GPRS itself was a pain and nobody seemed to know the settings for my Nokia 6020. Finally when everything was done, I used 40Mb of data (by my GPRS counter) and also by other software on my computer and got a bill for about Rs. 4000-4500. When I contacted customer care they told me that they are lodging a complaint and will get back to me. After waiting days I called up and was informed that their billing was ok and that it was rounded off to every 10kb, which was neither disclosed to me earlier and still didnt make sense unless they rounded off everything to the next 10kb everytime my computer succesfully sent/received a data stream.
I knew I had been ripped off and as I had other immediate expenses I informed them that I would be paying in installments, and at the same time disabled all add-ons and opted for an Airtel connection (which is serving me very well). Sometime in Jan-Feb this year I received a lawyers notice for non-payment. When I told them that I wanted to surrender my connection they told me that they will send me a consolidated bill which I can pay and terminate my connection. From time to time people call me up and one even asked me to send a FAX to their office which I did, I sent an email which bounced back after close to 10 days. In spite of giving them my new Airtel number they still try to contact me on my old office number, maybe I shouldnt have informed them at all when I left my job and shifted house... well anyway Ive stopped paying my bills which are still dutifully being sent to my old office. When the time for face off comes, Ill meet them in consumer court with all the appropriate documents.
I thought something might happen after Hutch changed colour... but it was only the colour. Hutch sucks.... and orange was anyway better.
