Engine and Gearbox
The Polo facelift range is available with three-cylinder 1.2-litre petrol, 1.2-litre TSI petrol and an all-new 1.5-litre four cylinder TDI engine. The latter is the biggest highlight of the facelifted model. The Polo GT TSI which sits at the top of the petrol range continues to be powered by a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 103bhp. The equivalent GT TDI, on the other hand, gets the new 1.5-litre engine producing 103bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. As for the standard diesel model, Volkswagen is offering the same 1.5-litre unit but in a lower state of tune with around 89bhp and 230Nm. The Cross Polo will be powered by the same 1.5-litre four cylinder diesel engine producing 89bhp and 230Nm. As for economy, the new Polo TD
I and the GT TDI have an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 20.14 kmpl and 19.91 kmpl respectively. The petrol powered GT TSI, on the other hand, is rated at 17.21 kmpl.
Competition
As before, the Polo facelift range will compete in the sub Rs 10 lakh premium hatchback segment with cars like the Hyundai i20, Renault Pulse and the Maruti Suzuki Swift. It will compete with upcoming models like the new Honda Jazz and the Fiat Punto Evo.
