Read the review on VSNL an all the comments. I would like to give my opinion on this. Being an administrator in my company and having a first hand view of the problem caused by them
What VSNL has done is blocked users from using their SMTP server to send emails outside. What this means is that if you have an account say abc@vsnl.com , but you have an email id to be abc@yourcompanyname.com you cannot use it unless u r ready to host your mail server with VSNL.
I feel that VSNL was totally unjustified in blocking access to emails being sent. while there is nothing wrong in what they have done it is the way they have done it.
First VSNL starts as the only ISP service in India, blocking any other ISP. Now that they are well established in the market they are allowing other ISP’s but the Gateway still comes from VSNL only. Hence any other ISP still has to go through VSNL gateway.
Now VSNL introduces their own premium service of hosting mail servers at a totally ridiculous price compared to the private market and then without notice or time suddenly blocks access to all users thereby forcing them to use the GREAT VSNL servers.
Now tell me this !
Where is VSNL when their servers go down which happens very frequently? ....shouldn’t they compensate us???
What kind of security is VSNL offering if we host our servers at their site? ...None.. they don’t even take responsiblity.
Are VSNL ready to guarantee 100% delivery of mails?
If VSNL can block this service without even informing anyone... then tomorrow if they FEEL like staying home they will go on strike and shutdown the entire gateway and block all internet access outside INDIA!! What will the other ISP’s do then??? CLOSEDOWN or pray for VSNL to open the gateway.....
