Waffle House, on the road and on the go this is the place to stop for a quick bite to eat.
Waffle House restaurants are small restaurants that dot all the highways across America. You can find one at just about every main exit of every highway, thruway, interstate and turnpike.
They are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
Each one is basically the same as the next, and I ought to know, I’ve eaten in about 20 different restaurants during my travels across the US.
Their bright yellow sign can be seen from the road and you are welcomed into a small, square, free standing building, that is brightly lit day and night. You seat yourself at one of about 8-10 booths or at the counter which seats about 18 people.
Their food is considered regular, middle class American fare. Hamburgers, sandwiches, eggs, fresh made pies, salads and ta daaaaaa waffles!
We usually stop late at night while we are driving and get ’’breakfast’’. Perfectly done eggs, bacon, fried potatoes and wheat or rye toast. Top it off with a cup of their famous coffee (I don’t drink it though), or tea and a slice of their yummy homemade pie and you’re set to drive another 6 hours!
Our other choice is to order their waffles, served with gobs of butter and warm gooey syrup. Good and fattening stuff!
I have on occassion tried other items, like a really good turkey sandwich on wheat bread, with lettuce and tomato. It too was really pretty good. Their salads are also not bad. Although they are pre made and all you do is add the dressing.
All and all, Waffle House restaurants is a really good place to stop along the road while you are traveling to grab something to eat. Or even just a cup of coffee (or tea) and a piece of pie to keep you going for a while.
Their prices are also something pretty good. 2 people can get a full breakfast (anytime of the day or night) for about $9.00 (US).
So when you’re traveling, keep your eyes out for the big yellow Waffle House sign, pull in and grab a bite to eat. =)
