I just saw this movie yesterday and was blown away along with the rest of my fellow movie goers. You would hardly assume a near silent movie with a simple straight forward plot to create such an impact, but it does, this... this phenomenon called WALL-E.
Directed by Andrew Stanton and produced by pixar animation studios this movie has amassed rave reviews worldwide. The basics of the plot without ruining the experience for you is as follows -
By the near end of 22nd century earth has become almost inhospitable for survival. A megacorporation named buy and large have accuired all of earths economy including the government duties. The heavy polluted state of things lead the mass production of WALL-E ( Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth class ) units which compress the waste and arranges it in skyscraper fashion for easy disposal. But rising unfavourable conditions forces humans to evacuate into the sanctury of space in their ultra luxury ships which holds all mankind.
700 years later all the WALL-E units have shut down except one which goes on doing its duties with the companionship of a coackroach and saves up all material items which it deems useful in its bunker ( an overturned hover truck I assume ) He learns of emotions from a videotape of a 1969 musical titled Hello Dolly which he plays over and over everyday and yearns for such. Then one day a spaceship drops a hi tech probe robot named EVE ( Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator ) whose aim is to search for plant life so as to support life again on earth. She appears as a brash, and quick to fire ( literally with her plasma cannon ) at the least provocation but gets lighter later on. For WALL-E its love at first sight. Let it be known that both units are not capable of speech and just robotic sounds.
Then the story moves about how WALL-E who had stacked away a growing sapling, hands it over to EVE and how the both end up on one of the starliners named Axiom where centuries of high luxury living has made humans obese and care free with out a sense of their surroundings. They are transported aound the ship with a floating chair which results them forgetting how to walk!! Will WALL-E manage to convince te humans to come back to earth for on more shot?? Will EVE ever love him back?? Watch the movie to find out
There are tons of special scenes in te movie which I havent mentioned. It was heart warming to watch the theatre erupt in cheer for the fat man for once. WALL-E and EVEs tender moment sure tugs at your heart strings. All through out the movie you are never shown as whether WALL-E a male and EVE a female robot except for their robotic voices yet you root for thei love to blossom. All in all a wonderful movie for the whole family which has garnered 23.1 million in US and canada in the opening day alone !! In my personal experience it was a brilliantly made movie with a message and has a lot of repeat playback value too.
