I bought this 6 months ago. It was working perfectly fine until last week. Then it failed in an instant. Afterward the drive fails to get detected and asks me to re-initialize it. I contacted WD and they offered me a replacement - but they wont repair it. I just lost 1TB of data. Fortunately I had backup for 60% data. Funny thing is SMART test still succeeds without problems.
I had HDDs which failed before. But all of them warned me about their death through SMART and I got enoguh time to backup the data before it went fully dead. This HDD however did not give me any such warnings.
No HardDisk is safe from eventual failure. But in 6 months? and with extremely careful use? Now thats not something I can accept. Its not about getting a replacement. Whats more important to me is the data itself. If a hard-disk has nor reliability, then it s not worth investing in it.
