A Wednesday - Common Man Rising

A wednesday, Another film on my favorite subject, Anti Terrorism. This movie ensembled a cast of the 2 best actors of India, Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah.

The movie is about the ACP of mumbai Prakash Rathore, who gets a phone call from a terrorist one morning that there has been bombs planted all accross the city and all what he needs to do to avoid the blasts is to release the 4 most ferrocious criminals who were arrested a few days back.

Had no choice left Prakash Rathore has to follow each and every instruction of the terrorist and has to release the terrorists. The strategist wanted the terrorsis to be brought to an under construction runway and left at the bench there.

Spoiler

The thing is this actually was not a plan to get the terrorist released, it was a plan to kill them all which ideally the indian police and the military should do after they get hold of them. This was not a terrorist who planned everything, but was a common man who did all this in frustration of being uncomfortable in any situation, scared whi travelling in the bus, scared while travelling in the train, scared while waling down the street ... etc etc ....

End of Spoiler

Now this movie is packed with powerful performances.

Jimmy shergill has less of dialouges but he is first rate. This can easily go down as one of his best performances.

Aamir Bashir - Now I have always liked this guys in television and I knew he is a good actor and he just proves me right here.

Anupam Kher- Fantastic Performance in a role which is a little under written but yet the brilliance of Anupam Kher carries is through to the league of the best performances this year.

Naseer Saab - A Class stuff, I havent seen a better performance than this in 2008. There is not a single flaw in the performance. Every scene, every dialouge is perferfect. The best pasrt of his performance is the outburst at the end. the way he describes why he did all that was just so touching and get’s pne to clap and cheer hard for him.

Neeraj Pandey’s direction is very impressive. A good director in the making.

Thankfully there are no songs in the movie.

One thing I noticed was that if UTV makes a movie without any big stars, they generally make good stuff.

One dialouge that I particularly liked in the movie was :: " Main nahi chahta ki koi button daba kar faisla kare ki mujhe kab marna hai ".

Overall - A great film.

5 out of 5.
