There is an old saying in Tamil, "Sadhu Mirandal Kaadu Kollad". Dont test the patience of a calm man, if you do then he is capable of even destroying an entire forest. That is the backbone of this movie.
The movie opens up with the protagonist of the movie shown in different locations of Mumbai. He is your common man who goes to a police station to complain the loss of his wallet. Yeah we all do file FIRs in the police stations and so does this 50 something guy.
Mumbai is a sultry city(weather wise), so asks the directions for the loo, goes inside washes his hands and places an explosive under the wash basin. that is the point when the running and rush starts, We are made to believe that the protagonist is actually the antagonist and are given to believe that he is involved in ensuring the escape of few most wanted terrorists, whom the police have kept under their scanner for a long time.
The movie has been shot in a very slick fashion. There are no lengthy introductions to any charecters at all. We are just shown few glimpses of the individual(characters) personal life to project the nature of the character. A new way of introducing folks.
A big relief comes in the form of excluding songs as it ensures that the momentum is maintained and ensures we remain on the edge of the seat.
Thanks to the cast, we dont feel that there are actors on the screen, we see only the charecters. Needless to say that naserudding shah and anupam kher have done a remarkable job in portraying their charecters. You will also be shocked to see the Baby Doll girl( you know who) actually acting with her face :).
There are lots of other enjoyable moments like the one in the end when anupam kher asks for Naseruddin shahs name and the viewers are not made aware of what the name is, and the scene where Anupam kher and the CM interact before the actual action starts etc.
This movie basically drives the following points
Our security system is so flawed that anyone can enter even the police station and blow it up
Our legal system is so really flawed that criminals get to live even after being caught by the police and being sentenced(initially)
Common man has to stand up and react, else they will continue to be suppressed and killed
Pity our police folks who pledge their life in catching criminals, but thanks to the legal system the criminals get away free.
Unfortunately, I like this movie so much that I do not wish to disclose the plot and my review may sound(taste) like the bland american food. I can promise that the movie actually is as spicy as our own indian food. Btw, the movie is only an hour and 45 minutes long. I wonder if this movie will make it to the Oscars or some undeserving movie( like TZP) goes to the Oscar.
Who cares about Oscars, good movies will always be appreciated.
Cheers
