A Wednesday to Celebrate...!!!

Happy to see this film getting accolades, attention as well as good weekend collection amidst Bollywood’s countless, senseless releases.Sometimes it is more evident in films itself that it doesn’t actually require an experienced critic to praise a director’s effort.

It could have been even better if Neeraj pandey, director and writer of this film, concentrated evenly on all the aspects such as background score and dialogue. Neeraj’s "A wednesday" is a clean story with a subtle message to the people of our country, conveyed exactly in the time when it is needed.

Handled from ’The Common Man’s’ point of view, this film reflects the bitterness of the public against their own ineffectiveness on facing the gory incidents which is becoming a part of every Indian’s life. The story gives a example of what will happen if a common man manages to stop adjusting and get ready to take revenge on behalf of his fellow citizens. The story like this needs a racy screenplay and flaring dialogues to help itself from critics describing it a documentary.

This film scores in holding its audience puzzled till the climax and succeeds partly in compelling them to relate themself to Naseeruddin Shah’s character, The Common Man. What a film like this should have and in what area this film loses its potential is when it comes to hard-hitting dialogues. A path is perfectly laid to see some firecrackers in the climax which is wasted without any reason. Especially when Naseeruddin Shah starts speaking in the climax scene, I noticed a dead silence, in the hall where it s screened, which I missed at the end.

The statements and phrases are very much simple that didn’t urge people to take it seriously. Neeraj consciously stayed away from the hackneyed method of displaying how venal and how outdated our government system to an extent he could. What’s more interesting is the climax conversation between Anupam Kher, Commissioner of Police, and Naseeruddin Shah. Not even a single negative utterance is thrown on the legitamacy of current day politicians which would have got more applause but also could have debilitated the purport of this film.

Directing in Bollywood, without any song, without any colourfull backdrops, believing only on taut screenplay and acclaimed acting talents, the director deserves credits from everyone who is desperate for a change. But what stops this film from reaching the peak of glory is the story which doesn’t have a pragmatic way of approach at all. I’m not the one who tries to find fault just for the sake of it.The reason why I have to say is also because of the story itself.

The story revolves around the traumas of a "Common man" and not about an infected robot. When it addresses current day problems such as terrorism, communalism etc.., the solution should be believable if not practical. What’s shown in the movie is beyond a common man’s competance. Director should have concentrated a bit more on background score which could have served as a hidden surprise for the viewers as there is no promotional song or a theme music released before the film.Neeraj’s burden is shared by all who have acted in this film getting in their heads exactly what is required.Cinematography is up to the mark and doesn’t hurt your eyes. A good, clean and entertaining film with a timely message and a wakeup call.Celebrate it, if you like the "Road not taken" concept.
