Welcome Friends

The story-line is intriguingly similar to that of English film, Mickey Blue Eyes(1999)

Dr Ghunghroo(Paresh Rawal) wants his nephew Rajiv(Akshay Kumar) to marry a girl from a decent family. Don Uday Shetty(Nana Patekar), would like an honest man to marry his sister Sanjana(Katrina Kaif). He and his friend Majnu(Anil Kapoor) set things up so Dr Ghunghroo accepts their proposal. Upon learning his mistake, however, he and his family flee the city. Things take a nasty turn when the son of RDX an even bigger don, is accidentally shot by Sanjana, but survives and carries the news back to his father while the others try to cover it up. RDX, seeking revenge, captures them and decides to kill them all. As he plans this, the house he is holding them in is toppled.

While most of the characters get out, Rajiv risks his life to save RDX’s son. RDX is grateful and he, Uday and Majnu decide to give up their lives of crime.

Akshay Kumar. Rajiv

Nana Patekar. Uday Shetty

Anil Kapoor. Majnubhai aka Sagar Pandey

Katrina Kaif. Sanjana Shetty

Malika Sherawat. Ishika

Paresh Rawal. Dr. Ghungroo

Feroz Khan. RDX(Ranveer Dhanraj Xaka)

Sunil Shetty . Special Appearance(as himself)

Shweta Mennon . Ghungroo’s Wife

During the scene where Anil Kapoor’s character goes to threat Paresh Rawal’s character, at the end you can hear Anees Bazme’s movie No Entry’s popular title song.

I heard that Welcome opened to a massive response locally, it grossed 35 crores in its first week, which is better than Dhoom 2’s opening, and is now only second to Om Shanti Om’s all-time 40 crores opening.

Within two weeks, Welcome grossed around 56 crores. It could’ve grossed more had it not released against Aamir Khan’s debut flick as a director Taare Zameen Par, which is also doing exceptional business.
