Bhelcome to Sajjanpur--no that is not a spelling mistake, actually, my co viewers finally asked is it s a hindi movie or a bhojpuri one? Its a satire, but after being used to mindless comedy, in movies like Welcome and Singh is kinng, not sure how much will this mild satire work on audiences.
The promos were very enticing and I expected more that what I got. firstly, the good part, genuine characterisation, the look was authentic and the hero was not one who is complete with all ideal qualities, but I found them very natural. Each one justfied their character, especially the fauji, thu I dont know his real name. The screenplay is also brilliant.
The not so good part, the story line, was very very straight, lacks concrete premise and final conclusion. The concept of a literate letter writer is brilliant and I wanted to see more to it than just be a spectator to the lifes of people who he interacts with....frankly I expected more from Shyam benegal.
