Well this movie is quiet unusual in this era of remixed movies or movies with same old action or fiction.
So in fact this film acts as a soothing movie with really sum sort of paisa wasool feelings along with multiple question mark which our real india actually faces. This film had pointed out several issues like
How despite increased education rate we r not that much educated
Social evils still relevant
Widow-remarriage relevance & reality(pathetic end in the movie)
How politicians are accustomed that they adopt any mean 2 re-ellected
Response of people 2 corrupt politics through unconventional form(ellection of kinner)
Ok now coming to storyline...
Shreyas is a educated guy who used 2 earn his livelihood through writing letters of his fellow gaonwallas as they are largely un-educated (if they are educated they know only the formality of signature)
Initially this movie was named as mahadev’s sajjanpur(mahadev ka sajjanpur )but to give it more attraction it was changed to this new name
Kudos to shreyas for this fine performance apart from amrita rao(real gal next door artist)
How social issues can be presented with humuor -this film iz a great example
So his heydays are going smoothly with no competition....suddenly there is declared the election of local sarpanch...
Here the story starts taking interesting turns as sreyas being the only letterwritter had 2 write letters of all
Now he faces the real irony of politics prelevant today...how democratic form of competition takes personal turn......
Amrita portrayed a role of a wife whose husband is in mumbai for work(like many middleclass village families)....
Rajeswari sachdev(being a child widow )& ravi kishan were ok in their role
So in the wake of election the story continues to give multiple glimpsee of rural india how people enter into publishing purchas to get hidden wealth or how a girl is forced to marry a dog as she z a maanglik & so on...
Now after storyline I think I should write the real feelings of mine about this movie. Shyam benegal is one of the most intellect & versatile director. His every movie had sum sort of ground reality aspect & this film 2 was not an exception...
I really enjoyed the way he adopt to give & raise social issues
Kinner candidature clearly sparks off the feding up of general people with normal politicians who just want change in their condition and kinner candidate seems to be an option for them to teach a lesson to existing politicians ...
Anyway he effectively raised the widow remarriage problem that how the couple in reality finds it very hard to associate themselves with society or how rural india still gripples under issues like manglikk etc. I think this movie needs to be made in sequel part so as to deal sum more issues...
