Comedy heist

I can’t decided which title is better and appropriate, say it aint so or what’s the worst that can happen. Did they just miss the whole concept of what elements a comedy should contain or was it trying to be serious on purpose.

Did Lawrence and Devito and the rest of the cast even read the script to realize you can’t squeeze out laughs that aren’t there to began with. Come on hollywood what is the entertainment factor in giving the audience a couple of laughs in a movie that’s a hour and a half long.

I suppose I was somewhat entertained throughout the movie but mostly I sat throughout without has much as chuckle. The whole plot was a rather simple one and was really stretched as far as it could possibly reach and then some more. Martin Lawrence plays a professional thief who hears about a easy heist from his partner in crime played by John Leguizamo.

The heist seems easy because it involves breaking in a mansion owned by Billionaire Max Fairbanks(played by Devito), who is facing bankruptcy and bans him from this home until it auctioned off. Needless to say Max is there to catch Kevin in the act before he gets away with anything.

Kevin is then arrested and to top things off Max then steals Kevin’s ring, which was given to him by his girlfriend, and claims it as his, when it really wasn’t. Kevin then begins his quest to get the ring back which is stretched for the whole movie.

The problem here is that there wasn’t really much here to work with and the added fact of Max facing bankruptcy wasn’t really needed. Most of Max’s wealth was gained on shady deals. Kevin, the business man that he is, said that is was highly wrong and almost even worse than what he does which just didn’t make any sense at all.

In the movie Devito and Martin take jabs at one other to take and hold onto the ring but during most of this time it feels more like there trying to be serious than funny.

The really only hilarious thing in the movie was when Max was at the Senate hearing and Kevin got his Cell phone number and called him during it when it was live on TV. How hard can it be to write at least two or three more of these scenes took actually make it look like a comedy.

On the other hand there really wasn’t much of a chemistry between Martin and Devito and for the most part the actors didn’t really seem into there roles and just did what they had to do to move on. I don’t understand why you would take a role if your not going to put a effort into it.

One of the only attempts on Martin’s part for some comedy was his same old lame schtick of slapping on a costume and acting like something else that really doesn’t help the story or anything else for that matter There is a numerous supporting cast for some reason and most are under used to begin with but the one that stands out is William Fichtner, who plays the ultra flamboyant cop that loves dogs. His character is the one element that is out of place compared to the rest of the movie and you can’t help but be amused and laugh every time the character is on the screen. I like that it’s unpredictable and it was done successful which lead to more of the brighter spots in the production.

One would think with all of the high quality talent there would be something in return for the audience to watch instead of this stuff that hardly makes you laugh. I know every movie made is not perfect every time but how can the production not notice this getting worse and worse after each minute watching. There’s a problem when there’s not a whole lot of laughter in a movie that’s suppose to be a comedy because you start really laughing at things like the senate hearing scene that really should only be mildy amusing but since there not much to work with here to began with you try to find any kind of laughter possible.

The truth hear is that this whole thing feels like it was constructed on make shift parts and needed a complete overhaul from the script, story, making the movie funny to began with and getting rid of some of the characters that really served no point at all.

The most amusing thing about the whole movie isn’t about anything on the screen, it’s the amount of common sense it took to come up with the title but hey then again it fits just right.
