Ever fantasized that mice will teach you a lesson …….if no….”.who moved my cheese” will prove you wrong!!
Despite its small size, who moved My Cheese? (Not more than 95 pages, large fonts, cheese pictures) Is masterful at helping people deal with a substantial, psychological roadblock-change.
Here goes the storyline
It is a story of two mice (Sniff and Scurry) and two little people (Hem and Haw) trapped in a maze.
Cheese is a metaphor for whatever you want in your life. For the mice, its cheese. For the little people, it could be fame, success, happiness, relationships or financial security.
One day, the foursome finds cheese in Cheese Station C (can be related to new position, relationship, asset). The people seeing the resource available shift their home to station C.
The mice always explore their surroundings and are looking for change. They werent completely surprised when one day the cheese disappeared. The mice accepted that there was no more and went looking for new cheese in the maze. They didnt try to hold on to a past that no longer existed
The little people were different. They had come to view Cheese Station C as their home. They bragged about it. They felt it was theirs. They were outraged, shocked, scared, and befuddled when the cheese disappeared and could not take it.
Hem and Haw felt the situation was unfair. It was their cheese, and now it was gone. Hem and Haw remained in Cheese Station C hoping the cheese would return and wondering where it had gone.(people hardly change when given a work at a different domain……merely because of the uncertainty in future)
One day, Haw decided that waiting for the cheese to return wasnt working .As fate would have it; Haw did find new cheese (it would be a pretty weak self-help book if he didnt!) On his quest, Haw kept writing lessons on the wall of the maze for incase HEW if to follow will know that he has done the right thing.
The essence lies in the message that says:
ANTICIPATE A CHANGE…….
ACCEPT THE CHANGE
ENJOY THE CHANGE
MOVE WITH THE CHANGE ………….IF YOU DON’T ……U WILL BE EXTINCT
