I received a phone call one day in April 2009 from a company proposing an IPTV connection. The caller identified himself as from BSNL. Upon further inquiry the actual details was given where he identified himself from WICE BOX IPTV co.
His sales pitch was interesting and anyway my TV set at home was an old piece. My options were to have a new set and old cable connection or continue with the old set and new dish/cable with set-top box connection. This IPTV gave me an opportunity to opt for the 2nd option with one more benefit - that my BSNL internet would now become ’faster & reliable’. Finally in april end/May 2009 I got it installed.From this moment came the shocks. 1st.
The charges - the salesperson had said Rs. 1500/- but at time of order I came to know that it is Rs. 1500+250 (installation charges)+10.3% service tax. 2nd. The internet improvement may or may not happen. But they did check my line and helped improvement due to a faulty connection which they repaired as well as getting the attenuation (earthing) reduced.
Further since this was routed through their server at Pune, it was more reliable (in terms of down time).3rd. It took some time to get it on and soon the pictures would get frozen/hanged. Often some channels would not be available due to which I had to keep both channels on.
To their credit I must mention that their RM agreed to charge me only after I am satisfied with the quality, which never happened. Finally the quality of channel was so rotten that I had to e-mail them to cancel it and refund the money.They uninstalled the IPTV in July end and till date (in spite of much follow up on phone and e-mail) I have not received my refund. They removed all the wiring etc. but if the refund comes they will refund only the deposit not the installation charges.
