One step ahead ( Rohit Malhotra )

When WINDOWS XP arrival was announced I was pretty excited .. after the failed attempts of Windows 2000 and windows 98 a change was really required, though Windows 98 wa good, but definitely could do with a new facelift.

I had expected it to be a modification of the the old windows kernel but was pleasently surprised to find the windows xp was based on the windows nt kernel. This opened so many new possibilties .. the interface was smashing and the integration of the mediaplayer and the cool image viewing prospects made it the ultimate software..

But for the tinkering kinds like me it also blocked many opportunities to tinker .. the microsoft people started believing in hiding things what would make things go awry.. hehe but we did get around.

Stability is still an issue which needs to be addresed .. many loophole were left which led to various windows xp targeted viruses floating around the star amoungst them being blaster and its strains..

There is a firewall on board but it can be easily circumvented.

All these got sorted out to an extent with the Windows SP2 .. thank god I had a licenced version as the sp2 gets your computer to behave strangely if you have a pirated version but if you have a licenced version your fire wall gets upgraded

The security integration is better .. you can work kewl softwares like windows media player 10 and photostory 3 .. ( and extreamly kewl software free download from microsoft)

Still it provided no respite from the adware .. there are some compatibility issues with softwares such as adobe which I hope we get over them.

All in all an above average attempt .. but keep at all times, the installation CD hand, incase you don’t, then atleast your computer vendors telephone number in your pocket at all times is a must.
