Five days to go !

Dear members of MS, HI ! this is me, phoenix_web ! and a ’good day’ to some of you here and a not so ’good day’ to the others !...lol...well, I was just scanning the ’books’ section and it is hard not to notice the pitiful number of reviews on one of the best books ever to be published, if not in the world, then, one of the best in INDIA atleast ! As an INDIAN, I think every CITIZEN of INDIA, should and must read this wonderful book !

Now, I am sure many of you would have already read this book, but I am also sure that many more have not ! well, all I can say is, its an eye opener, which I am sure, you people would have already heard loads of times...no kidding well, HAPPY SURFING !

While the sands of time trickle down through the ages, there are few who make their marks and find a place in history! But, there are even fewer who make their marks in the hearts of people! One such person who has scaled great heights, stood against the odds, and aspired for a better future, not just for himself but for the whole of India, is none other than Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam ! A man of immense wisdom and virtue, he’s not just one of india’s great scientist, but also her greatest technocrat and visionary ! He is no doubt, the man who deserves to be the president of this great country, to lead us all to a better future and break the bonds of prejudice and ignorance !

In his autobiography, he speaks of his journey through life- his triumphs, his losses and the people responsible for his success ! Arun Tiwari, Dr. Kalam’s junior, has helped compile and complete this wonderful account of his life. Kalam has expressed his views on the shortcomings we possess and what we must do in order to improve the world; not just the one around us, but within us as well!

In the opening chapters, APJ talks about his childhood, those green and salad days, when the child within him was coming to terms with his world; he speaks of his parents, his father (Jainulabdeen), who was uneducated himself, helping him learn the true philosophy of life, that nearly everyone of us, searches for, in desperation; his mother, his soul maker and molder. He speaks of the important days in his life that he spent with his friend and brother-in-law, who helped him develop, mentally and psychologically; the time he spent with him, learning the true essence of life, to help others and treat others, the way he would like to be treated!

Kalam goes on to talk about his high school and college life he spent away from home, hoping against hope to get back to the place he thought he belonged to(Rameswaran)! Kalam later on passed his Entrance exam into the Madras Institute of Technology and graduated with a degree in Aeronautical engineering. Disappointment striked when he was unable to get into the Indian Air Force; but was reminded that he was meant for other purposes, a purpose he was destined for!

Dr. Kalam went on to join the HAL where he would meet his first challenge that would be his first step into professional life, where he would begin his journey as a leader! Kalam was successfully able to complete his task, and make India’s first indigenously built War purpose hover craft within record time; there after Kalam’s talents were recognized and he was immediately recruited by DRDO.
