The first time my ex-boss had mentioned winners’ bakery, he had been to the inauguration of the bakery through someone he knew. He said that the underprivileged would receive training in baking cakes, biscuits and various other confectionary products and these products will be retailed out of ’Winners’. It’s managed by the Chennai Culinary Institute in collaboration with Corporation of Chennai and Rotary Club of Madras
Initially I was doubtful of the quality of cakes, but my ex-boss assured me that it was really good. We sent someone across get a chocolate truffle cake that he had suggested. The cake arrived at the office and we each took a piece of it. We were so amazed by the quality. It tasted so good. We continued to get cakes from Winners after that.
I am not saying that you wouldn’t get cakes like this anywhere else in Chennai but this is a great cause too. In fact, the 5 star hotels outsource their cake making to winners and sell it at a premium…so why not buy it from winners directly. Whenever there is an occasion for a cake, even my friends get their cakes from there. The other day we had the walnut cake that was Yum too. Winners bakery is at 19, C V Raman Road, near Corporation Community Centre, Alwarpet, Chennai - 18. Do visit this place, and it won’t disappoint you. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but its worth it.
