Much Promise, Paltry Execution

Wipro BPS rechistened so post the fallout with Spectramind is seen in many ways as frontrunner or pioneer in this space or perceived unanimously as such. After all were it not for IT, ITES would have been a hardsell

Nevertheless, the company hasn’t lived up to it’s promise of better for this fledgling unrefined BPO industry. In this space, you have organisations which are game changers besides those widening the playing boundaries. The former has players viz TCS, Accenture, Wipro, Infosys, Cognizant, Emphasis, Aditya Birla etc.Notice here that these are big corporations or enterprises which lead the way or path. The latter sort of piggyback on the fields created by the big names like JP Morgan, NCO/Radius, FiS, Tech Mahindra, SERCO etc

Other than these a lot of brick& mortar BPO’s rule the roost which offer what you would call subsistence income! It’s akin to what is known in marketing parlance as underplay cartel pricing probably playing a trend here

Unfortunately, Wipro has yet to buck the trend here. In many ways it’s dissimilar to SERCO, First Source, Sutherland but in many other areas resemblance is canny

In order to assess Wipro BPS, & in order to save the readers’ a list of pros& cons are best listed here. However, nothing is sacrosanct& moreover, everything’s best consumed with the proverbial salt pinch

Pros:

  • Organised Policies for Training, Transport, Information Security& Employment

  • Tough Screening, Selection Criteria to ensure quality picks

  • Employee facilities are well addressed be it food, R&R, Security& Learning

  • Transparent, Cooperative Nature

Cons:

  • Salaries aren’t commensurate with market conditions.Highly downmarket comparable to the likes of Convergys, First Source& many B-Grade BPO’s!

  • Sense of deja vu, status quo always the norm rather than the exception here.almost like’if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it attitude

Laissez faire culture

  • Processes are mainly into Travel, Transportation, Hospitality

Financials& Telecom(Powai); Belapur has Medical Insurance process. Very few or non-existent LOB’s with strong lateral earning
