Mothers life saved without breaking the bank

My 78 year old mother on a recent visit to Bangalore, suffered a sudden heart attack and was rushed to the emergency unit of Wockhardt Hospital on Bannerghatta Rd. She was taken in and treated immediately without any demand for paperwork, payment or any other formalities. These were completed only after she was admitted in ICU and undergoing treatment. Because of this her life was saved. Had it been in Bombay, the hospitals would have insisted on paperwork, payment etc first. She may not have survived.

Contrary to the mercenary attitude of Bombay hospitals and doctors, we were pleased to see here that the consultant did not seek unnecessary [and costly] investigations or procedures. Had this been most other mercenary hospitals, they would have had umpteen tests and may even have urged us to go in for further procedures.

In fact the senior head of cardiology only charged Rs500 consultancy fees per day and discharged her after 4 days, without charging for the fourth day. I was quite amazed. How very different from Bombay doctors. Local Bangalore residents said that the Appollo hospital next door was very mercenary and cost three times as much as Wockhardt.

Nursing care in the ICU was continuously attentive and exemplary. In the ward, this was not so and the nurses had to be frequently called and reminded. Everyone was very polite and courteous however.

All in all, I would recommend this hospital especially for emergency treatment.
