Plethora of emotions

A roller coaster ride for anyone watching it assuming that it’s just a love story. Let me warn you, it’s not. But I still recommend it. There are emotions galore in this sweet poison ivy.

Love and melancholy intricately woven in the script leave you with a sense of pathos for both protagonists. No doubt they make a pretty couple and there is no inhibition in their chemistry anywhere. And frankly there is sincerity much essential to the interplay.

Then there is passion in its sweetness and lust in its hideousness. Innocence guarded and dependency abused. It may leave a pit in your stomach. It scares you at times so much that a shrill goes down your spine. And you would hate the sight of this much frightful character Rani in the movie. It only compels you to think that even when you know that this character is not real yet scary, how bad it would’ve been for the victim, Parveen Babi.

It’s too much of emotions for a young actress who is two movies old and much young to play a bold, beautiful but psychotic character. No doubt she is brilliant in every frame. Abused and troubled as much her character had been.

Shiney is no doubt good but, though I appreciate his performance, I would hold back on that perfect 10. No doubt, he is capable of stealing the best of appreciation but this one lacks in a few details here and there. Overall he comes across, as usual, as a very sensitive and mature actor.

Very well executed. The director deserves an ovation.
