"Love is a moment that lasts forever." - Julie Wittey
Love is a simple four letter word that has acquired a very casual meaning in todays fast moving world. We hear of people falling in and out of love numerous times in their lives. The shallow-ness of such claims strikes us when we realize how deep the emotion of love truly is. Woh Lamhe wonderfully brings forth an appreciation of love in all forms- passion, selflessness and above all, sacrifice.
Shiney and Kangana showed immense promise in their past ventures. Some ear soothing music and an interesting story line also served to be compelling reasons to go watch this movie. I am very pleased to admit that the decision was one of the best I ever made. 25 year old Mohit Suri deserves a standing ovation for handling a complex script with immense maturity. Woh Lamhe, with the backdrop of Mahesh Bhatt and Parveen Babis turbulent relationship, is above all a love story. Aditya (Shiney) is this shrewd filmmaker who is willing to go to any extent to make his film work. What better option could he have than casting super successful Sana Azim (Kangana) They fall in love..but its definitely not a bed of roses. Sanas possessive boyfriend (Shaad) is hardly the obstacle. Sana is a paranoid schizophrenic who hallucinates abt a girl called Rani. The disease drives her to insanity, even leading her to suspect deeply-in-love Aditya. Destiny parts their ways, uniting them only on Sanas death bed.
The theme of the story is definitely its strong point. The moments we spend with the person we love, the pain of separation, the helplessness of circumstances..these emotions do remain with us forever. But the movie rests on the shoulders of the cast. Kangana, undoubtedly, is a superb actor. She emotes fear, love, pain..with a spontaneous ease. Shiney is almost synonymous with maturity and intensity. Even though Kangana is quite the focus here, he manages to make his mark. He brings out all the nuances of Adityas character in an uncannily natural manner. The rest of the cast is also well chosen. Masumeh, as Sanas hallucination and Shaad, as her boyfriend deserve special mention.
The music of the film ideally complements the narrative. Kya Mujhe Pyar Hai and Bin tere are my favourites. Cinematography is suitable- in a movie like this, there isnt any need for exotic locales. Each scene seems to have been delicately put together. The Birthday party sequence where Sana stabs Aditya is a spine chilling moment. The scenes of Sanas delusion are wonderfully executed, so are the moments the lovers spend together in Goa.
Finding out cons is difficult..perhaps the narrative could have been faster in certain places. A few scenes in the first half could have been edited better. But on the whole, the impact of the movie is such that you would definitely need a second viewing to start pointing at flaws. Woh Lamhe, as the tagline suggests, is for everyone who has loved and lost..its a love story that touches on what true love really is about.
