Well, this is one movie that we were planning to watch as soon as it released. Adding to the anticipation was a 4-4.5 star rating in all the newspapers and TV channels. So, seeing it was a must.
Alas, it did not turn out as we had expected. The story as everyone and their dog knows by now is about Mahesh Bhatt and Parveen Babi and their days of passion. Well, we all know that Mahesh Bhatt would not let go of an opportunity to appear as the knight in shining armour and save all the beautiful ladies of the world.
Here we have Shiney Ahuja playing Mahesh and Kangana Ranaut playing Parveen. She is a drunk, tired-with-life heroine who is oppressed by her boy friend Nikhil (Shaad Randhawa). He helps her break loose and makes a movie with her which becomes a super duper hit. In true Bhatt style, the movie is named Bargirl (sic).
So far, so good. Then comes the twist in the tale, when all realise that Ms. Babi is a schizo who dreams of a non-existent roomie, who exhorts her to kill Mahesh. And she does try to do it. He forgives her and tries to cure her, but she escapes to return years later as a suicide victim.
The acting is okey dokey. Shiney does decent justice to his role. Kangana, surprisingly appears wimpy and does not provide the kind of glamor to the role of Parveen. And whats with all those slinky clothes? And Mr. A Ramadoss, spare SRK and have a look at whats going in the other movies. Kangana appears with a ciggie in almost all the shots, puffing away to glory. Purab Kohli is ok with a small role. The one who shocks and surprises with her acting is Masumeh as Kanganas schizo friend. Music is good enough, cinematography is also of the same level. Somewhere the editing could have been tauter, so taht the movie does not seem so long.
Watch it, but dont be too disappointed.
