I was for long sceptical about the theme parks in Bangalore, Channi and other south indian cities. In my past experiece, I had seen some of the reputed theme parks having quite a bit of creeky equipment and more dnagerously, untrained staff.
So when my daughter(6 years) was insistant on going to Wonderla, I did not give in so easily. It took her 6 months to convince me that its worth a try. We decided to try. We drove down to this place last weekend. The drive is very good, once you leave the chaotic traffic of the city, on the mysore highway.
I was in for some pleasant surprise at the park. Though it appears a little expesive(we paid close to Rs 520 per person), this park for once, is really well maintained. Not only that the equipemnts are squeeky clean and the staff are well trained in operating them, even the most vulnerable spots like the toilets and changing rooms are very well maintianed.
The park has many’Dry rides’, which all of them have one central idea: put you in a blender and spin you. all of them are more or less the same. swing you upside down, sudden fall and what not. I was a little disappointed with the lack of imagination unlike that of the theme parks in Malaysia and Singapore. They are innovating there very heavily.
The Wet rides are a much better lot though. The Wave poo and Wonder splash are novel, if not very innovative rides.The water is clean, warm and well chlorinated.As I said earlier, what makes it even better is the clean bath rooms, changing rooms and locker facility for your goods.
The other pleasant thing is that the eatables inside the park are sold at much reasoable prices, unlike other places where they hold you to a ransom. So you dont feel uncomfotable or feel cheated everytime you buy a bottle of water or coll drink or even the lunch.
Overall, its a nice place to spend a day, without worrying about your child cutting her / his fingers on a rusted sharp edge of a creeky old equipment or getting roughened up by a poorly trained ride operator.
Tips: Take a pair of extra clothings, including inner clothings, Swim suits, ear plugs and goggles. Pl dont keep anything in your pockets during water rides. Best timings will be to go after lunch time and spend till 7PM.
