I read reviews on all hotels in Matheran before settling for this hotel. It located in the woods(makes sense is you are looking for a getaway and does not like hotels at main crowed and dusty areas) at a walking distance from the market place and also to Dasturi(1.2km).
It is a basic hotel - you get a room, TV, attached bath, clean bedsheets, bf/lunch/dinner at a table near your room(they dont have a hall) which is great! Except that you have to watch out for adventurous and hungry monkeys, but it is okay the hotel keeps airguns to keep them away and you should not get too friendly with them. You get hot water bucket. Food is strictly Indian veg and tasty and huge quantity.
Service is great - very prompt. Price is good. Before I booked into Woodlands I checked Regal and Cecil for prices. Woodland gave me a better package(food and room) of almost Rs. 5000 for 4/3 - days/nights inclusive of everything during winter peak season. It also has space for children games, tt and badminton.
