While the music on worldspace might be repetitive but good, the service provided by the world space is really really bad. As long as the receiver works, its fine. If anything goes bad, you might as well buy a new receiver. First, the power adapter of the BPL recievers keep burning out. Then the overall quality of the BPL receiver is extremely poor. In two of my receivers, there is a humming sound becuase the system does not have any earthing facility. So I attach an extra wire to one of the screws of the receiver and plug it into the earth socket of a plug, then it works fine. The BPL service centers just dont want to have anything to do with worldspace. They refuse to acknowledge that they service the product until you force them, then they say theres no warranty on adapters, then the reciever takes 7 - 10 days to fix if theres a problem. During all this time, your PAID subscription keeps lapsing due to no fault of yours.
Worldspace, the company itself is no good in terms of service. First they did not have an online renewal facility. Now, they have created an ILLEGAL and highly dangerous online renewal facility. If you punch in your credit card numbers on the worldspace website, you may please be aware that instead of just verifying your card details for credit worthiness, which is what an online payment gateway is supposed to do, WORLDSPACE will quielty take you card information and store it with them, without informing you. No where in their site is it written that theirs is not an automatic verification facility but just a form to submit all your card information to them - willfully. Also, their payment site is niether verisign nor any other security system certified. Further, 4 days after paying online, you still do not receive your password. If you all the service center numbers - which are difficult to get to - they will politely say - Sir, it takes 48 working hours (4 working days) to generate a password if you have paid online !!
I suggest in metros, you wait for a few months. There will be a plethora of FM channels pouring music out for free !
